Biography
Draumir is the Norwegian duo Alexandra Bråten (vocals) and Jo Frøytlog (vocals, guitars, keyboards). The band emerged in the mid-2000s with their Norwegian Grammy-nominated debut, Draumir (Playground Music), followed by The Island (Universal Music). Both albums were produced by Chris Eckman (The Walkabouts, Midnight Choir), placing the band within Norway’s flourishing melancholic rock scene. Violinist Alfred Cornelius Hals and bassist Håvard Stokstad were also central to this early line-up, which grew from Oslo’s underground venues to festival stages across Norway before going on an indefinite hiatus.
Bråten and Frøytlog revived Draumir in 2022, recording new material at Athletic Sound in Halden with engineer Dag Erik Johansen and musicians including Torstein Lofthus, Audun Erlien, Ture Janson, Atle Nymo, and Paul Niehaus. Singles released throughout 2024 attracted attention from Norwegian outlets including Dagsavisen, Ballade, and Puls, as well as international music blogs such as Obscure Sound. Mixed by longtime collaborator Phill Brown (Talk Talk), the band’s third album, A Dreamer's Eye, followed in December 2024.
Following a handful of intimate shows in 2025, Draumir will release The Quiet Sessions EP on December 4, 2026. Recorded at Amper Tone Studio in Oslo and Athletic Sound in Halden during the summer of 2026, its four tracks reveal a quieter, more stripped-back side of the band. The EP opens with “All The Way To The Moon,” a tribute to the late jazz singer and artist Radka Toneff, and features contributions from Ture Janson, Atle Nymo, and Audun Erlien. Draumir is also working on a new album, planned for 2027.
